Do you know what Democracy is?  It's us!  If we don't know what's going on, if we don't know how our government works, then we forfeit our political power to other people -- who may or may not share our interests.  Democracy is only as strong and healthy as our awareness and involvement in it.  Government is a good example that if we are not AT the table, then our interests will be ON the table.

How a city spends it money tells you a lot about that city.  Do you know what the budget is for your city – and how it spends its money?   What does a mayor do?  What do City Council Members and County Supervisors do?  How do the City and County work together?  Local politics has a direct impact on our everyday lives.  Steve is not only a former public official but has been actively involved in various local issues.   He has such an engaging way of presenting ideas and information that you will be both eager and excited to learn more about how things work in your town.

Steve Rabinowitsh has been an instructor of political science at Santa Rosa Junior College for over twenty-five years.  He served on the Santa Rosa City Council from 1998 to 2006 and he was instrumental in establishing the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District.  He is currently Chair of the City of Santa Rosa Waterways Advisory Committee and active in the Southeast Greenway Campaign, an effort to purchase and create a 47-acre greenway in Santa Rosa.  In 2023, he was awarded a merit award from the City of Santa Rosa as a "Community Hero".
