About the Speaker: Zakiya Thomas is President and CEO of the ERA Coalition and Fund for Women’s Equality. Zakiya is a change agent, working to make equality a reality for all people. Using her experiences as a political strategist and nonprofit manager, Zakiya leads a diverse coalition of three hundred organizations representing eighty million people. This community of activists advocates for gender, racial, and reproductive justice, LGBTQ+ rights, and more under the unifying goal of sex equality. Zakiya is also an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown Law teaching a nonpartisan course on how to run for political office and volunteers on sevERAl nonprofit boards.
The Amendment States:
“Section 1: Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.
Section 2: The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.
Section 3: This amendment shall take effect two years after the date of ratification.”
