250 Years Later: Why the First Amendment Still Matters

A Live Panel Discussion

The League of Women Voters of Sonoma County and the Sonoma County Library present a multi-faceted, non-partisan discussion on this most important topic: The First Amendment and Sonoma County – Past, Present and Future.

Moderated by Karen Weeks

An active member of the League of Women Voters of Sonoma County, Ms. Weeks will serve as Moderator of the First Amendment of Sonoma County, Past, Present and Future panel discussion

The most basic of human rights are covered by the First Amendment.  In fact, the Supreme Court has consistently held that constitutional rights like freedom of speech, religion, and assembly apply to all people within the territory of the United States, regardless of their citizenship or immigration.  And yet, the First Amendment is being challenged every day.

A panel of Sonoma County leaders will discuss the impact of the First Amendment on Sonoma County today and in the future. You’ll hear legal, local government, public library and public media perspectives.  Bring your questions and join us!

Panelists Include:

  • Stephen Rohde, First Amendment Scholar and Retired Constitutional Lawyer
  • Rebecca Hermosillo, Sonoma County Board of Supervisors Chair and Supervisor, District 1
  • Deborah Doyle, Sonoma County Library Commission, Past Chair
  • Greta Mart, News Director, Northern California Public Media
