2026 Grand Jury Luncheon

This social gathering of grand jury members, our League members and their guests is a wonderful way to renew your faith in our democracy and get reconnected  with old and new friends.  A buffet lunch will be provided followed by introduction of the grand jury members and a description of what they do. Candidate Forum

The Voter Services Committee is actively recruiting volunteers to conduct candidate forums prior to the November election.  Pick from the various volunteer roles & learn the skills for volunteering in our candidate forums: Timekeeper, Moderator, Zoom Host & Co-host. Organizer, Question Developer/sorter.  No previous experience needed.
 
Spend an hour with us. The next training session is scheduled for August 8th.  Registration is not required.

General Plan Update

Advocacy Committee Meeting
 
Join us online at our regular monthly Advocacy meeting. This is an opportunity for our League to learn about the Sonoma County General Plan and contribute our voice to this timely process.  Sonoma County is in the midst of developing their General Plan Update, something that occurs every 20 years.  The board of Supevisors will meet September 15 to hear community input on their priorties. 
 
Rue Furch, an environmental activist, has been working with a network of groups to develop General Plan Update priorities. The General Plan lays down goals with enforceable policies, uses of land, and implementations that will have consequences into many future generations. Link here to attend.

Nationwide Events

On August 8, 2026, join the League and our partners as we host a nationwide day of civic action in honor of the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Volunteer to Table at the
Gravenstein Fair in Sebastopol

Help register people to vote and give out League information at the Gravenstein Apple Fair.  The fair will run all weekend, August 8th and 9th between10am and 6pm in Ragle Park in Sebastopol.  
 
Email  president@lwvsonoma.org  if you can help either day - anytime between 10-6.
Stand Up for Democracy Yard Signs are now FREE!
 
Special thanks to all who have purchased a Stand Up for Democracy yard sign. Because of your support we have recouped the cost of the signs.
 
Our hope now is to spread the word about this remarkable campaign that helps the public refresh knowledge of their rights so they can see how they relate to current events and be inspired to VOTE THEIR VALUES.  To that end, Stand Up for Democracy yard signs are now FREE. Please encourage your friends to bring civics knowledge to their neighborhood in time for the midterm election.

Action Items

Oppose the SAVE Act

Americans do not need MORE
obstacles to vote.

Congress continues to introduce bills that would create unnecessary barriers to voting by requiring voters to present documents like government-issued photo IDs to vote.
