Libraries and Book Banning Requests are in the News!

What is happening in our Sonoma County Libraries?

The May Monday Monthly League Meeting Presents--

Erika Thibault, So Co Library Director

and

Deborah Doyle, So Co Library Commission Chair

&United for Libraries 2023-2024 president

“Erika is moving the Sonoma County Library into the future. We look forward to creating a 21st century library system that will make Sonoma County residents extremely proud,” said Deborah Doyle, Chair of the Library Commission.

Can you imagine a world without Public Libraries? Public Libraries are at the heart of democracy. They ensure equitable access to information and knowledge with a commitment to intellectual freedom.

But, some Americans want to curtail library's services. Public Libraries are in the line of political fire these days -- Some states are moving towards banning books and even questioning if libraries should be defunded altogether.

Under the first amendment to the US constitution, Congress may not ban books, but maybe states and individuals can. What about local government, libraries, and local school boards?
