Join Us Monday for Racially Charged Screening & Panel Discussion
Do you have plans for lunch on Monday? If not, the League of Women Voters of Pasadena, Los Angeles County, and the League of Women Voters of California invite you to join us for a special lunchtime screening of the film, “Racially Charged: America’s Misdemeanor Problem” on January 31, 2022, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm (PST). The screening will be followed by a panel discussion of shared experiences by individuals who have been impacted by the criminal legal system.
Register for the event here.
USC law professor, Jody Armour will moderate the panel of speakers from Californians United for a Responsible Budget (CURB), Surviving the Odds Project, Pure 1 and the Black and Jewish Unity Coalition.
We will open the zoom link at 11:45 am to allow participants to join early, engage in some pre-film Q&A and settle down with their lunch while watching the film. The film and discussion will last one hour.
Please note that the event will start promptly as we want to reserve all of the time for our panelists.
This screening is made possible through a collaboration with Brave New Films, the League of Women Voters local chapters, and the League of Women Voters of California. This event is part of a larger effort to pass the California Racial Justice Act for All (AB 256, Kalra), legislation to provide relief to people impacted by racist sentencing and convictions - no matter when it happened. Our panelists will speak in their own individual capacities and their views do not represent an organizational endorsement, unless specified.
Register for the event here.
The Racial Justice Act for All is cosponsored by ACLU California Action, American Friends Service Committee, California Coalition of Women Prisoners, Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights-L.A., Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, Initiate Justice, League of Women Voters of California, NextGen California, and Silicon Valley De-Bug.
